Itanagar, April 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, announced on Thursday that the state has made remarkable strides in its sports achievements over the last ten years, notably attaining the fifth position nationally and being recognized as the leading performer in the Northeast during the Khelo India Tribal Games.
During the inauguration of three significant infrastructure projects at Dera Natung Government College in Itanagar, the Chief Minister urged students to engage actively in sports, highlighting that participation fosters discipline, leadership skills, and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
Khandu informed the students about the state government's scholarship program aimed at those gaining admission to the world's top 150 universities, which offers complete financial support. He encouraged students to leverage this initiative for global exposure.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government prioritizes education and healthcare, with ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure of educational institutions.
He assured support for the future requirements of Dera Natung Government College, promising timely action on necessary infrastructure developments, including classrooms for newly added departments.
Remembering the late Dera Natung, a former Education Minister and a prominent figure in the Nyishi community, the Chief Minister noted that the institution named in his honor continues to realize his vision of empowering youth through quality education.
Khandu praised the college's Principal and faculty for their commitment to academic excellence, mentioning that the college currently serves over 4,600 students in Arts, Science, and Commerce, supported by 14 academic departments.
He stressed the significance of sports facilities, pointing out that the newly opened Badminton-cum-Judo Hall and Recreation Hall will be pivotal in fostering the holistic development of students.
On the subject of educational reforms, he introduced “Mission Shikshit Arunachal 2029,” in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, stating that the government is simultaneously enhancing infrastructure and implementing academic reforms to meet global education standards.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the increasing relevance of technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in education, urging students to responsibly integrate technological advancements. He noted that initiatives involving Artificial Intelligence and Vidya Samiksha Kendras have been launched to facilitate real-time monitoring and enhancement of educational outcomes.
Additionally, Khandu announced the establishment of two science centers with planetariums in Namsai and Dirang, which have received approvals, to foster scientific curiosity among students.
Emphasizing skill development, he pointed out the emerging opportunities in sectors such as hydropower, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, and entrepreneurship, encouraging students to pursue skill-based education and aim to be job creators rather than job seekers.
The Chief Minister mentioned various government initiatives, including the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Swavalamban Yojana, startup support programs, and the Arunachal Pradesh Investment and Innovation Park.
He also declared the formation of an “Arunachal Creative Economy” cell within the Chief Minister’s Office to promote local talents in arts, music, weaving, and other creative domains, providing them with global platforms for growth.
Reiterating the government's dedication to youth development, Khandu encouraged students to maintain discipline, focus, and a visionary approach in their endeavors.
