Itanagar, Nov 23 (NationPress) Chief Minister Pema Khandu emphasized on Sunday that the state administration is devoted to establishing Arunachal Pradesh as the foremost sporting center in the Northeast. This initiative is supported by substantial investments in sports infrastructure, academies, and youth-centered programs under the Khelo India initiative alongside state-led efforts.
During the inauguration of the 42nd NTPC Sub-Junior National Archery Championship 2025 at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Yupia, located in Papum Pare district, the Chief Minister reinforced his government’s dedication to enhancing sports development. He announced plans for a dedicated archery stadium, which will bolster training facilities and support local talent.
Khandu expressed his pride in the contributions made by Arunachal Pradesh to Indian archery, recalling the successes of archers like Maselo Mihu and Sorang Yumi, whose international accolades continue to motivate the youth of the state.
He highlighted that archery is intricately linked to Arunachal’s cultural legacy and occupies a significant position in the sporting history of the state, being the first sport to secure international medals and the inaugural National Games gold for Arunachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister encouraged all young competitors to participate with dignity, discipline, and true sportsmanship, noting that events like this championship not only cultivate future champions but also promote learning, camaraderie, and national unity.
Khandu extended his appreciation to the NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation), a leading entity in India’s power generation sector, for its ongoing support of Indian sports and thanked the Archery Association of India for allowing Arunachal Pradesh to host this esteemed event.
He also praised the Arunachal Archery Association, the organizing committee, volunteers, and all involved parties for their unwavering efforts in ensuring the championship’s success.
The Chief Minister warmly welcomed all teams, officials, and dignitaries participating from across the nation.
Khandu described 2025 as a “milestone year for Indian archery”, spotlighting India’s impressive achievements on international stages, including the first-ever gold at the World Archery Championship 2025, a historic medal count at the 24th Asian Archery Championships, and an outstanding seven medals at the 2025 World Archery Para Championships.
This event features 46 teams from 28 states, 8 union territories, and 10 affiliated archery bodies. The Chief Minister concluded by wishing all competitors the best and officially opened the championship.
The championship will span eight days, concluding on November 30.
