New Delhi, Sep 10 (NationPress) Former world champion Nico Rosberg asserts that Toto Wolff's recent public remarks about Kimi Antonelli are a strategic move by the Mercedes CEO, whom he describes as a meticulously calculated individual.
Rosberg expressed his surprise at Wolff's statements, suggesting they serve to exert pressure on the Italian driver.
"It's unexpected because right now, the best approach is to give Kimi the most time possible in a calm manner, which includes refraining from public criticism.
"This shift in Toto's tone is unprecedented... There’s usually a reason for his words. Toto is very strategic in his comments. Perhaps he aims to create pressure on Kimi and his family to reassess their approach.
"Ultimately, Kimi is a generational talent, as we all recognize, but the challenges he's facing are more significant than we anticipated. It's somewhat perplexing that things remain so tough for him," Rosberg remarked during 'Sky Sports' The F1 Show.'
In his inaugural season in Formula 1, Kimi has been tasked with the daunting challenge of succeeding someone as prominent as Lewis Hamilton. The 19-year-old has accumulated 66 points over 16 races and currently stands eighth in the World Driver’s Championship rankings.
Hamilton referred to Antonelli's performance at Monza, where he finished in ninth place, as 'disappointing'.
"Disappointing this weekend. Disappointing. You can't end up in the gravel and expect to succeed. The entire race was disappointing. Nevertheless, my support and confidence in his future remain unchanged because I believe he will be exceptionally talented. But today was... disappointing,” Wolff stated.
