New Delhi, March 22 (NationPress) Minnu Mani, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Sneh Rana have been appointed as captains for Teams A, B, C, and D, respectively, for the forthcoming Senior Women’s Multi-Day Challenger Trophy. This red-ball tournament is set to unfold at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium and Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun from March 25 to April 8.

This red-ball tournament made a comeback in the Indian women's cricket domestic circuit in 2024, after its last occurrence in 2018. While it followed a zonal format in the previous year, the BCCI has opted for a new structure this time, forming teams based on the first four letters of the English alphabet.

The tournament will adopt a round-robin format with matches lasting three days each. The team accruing the most points will be declared the tournament champion. Each of the four teams will feature a mix of regular Indian players and standout performers from the recent Women’s Premier League (WPL), including Amanjot Kaur, who was recognized as the Emerging Player of the 2025 season, during which her team, Mumbai Indians, clinched the title.

The competition will also showcase uncapped fast-bowling all-rounder Kashvee Gautam, who took 11 wickets in nine matches for the Gujarat Giants. Notably, prominent players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Renuka Singh Thakur have not been selected for this domestic red-ball tournament.

The exclusion of these players is likely a strategic decision by the Neetu David-led women’s selection committee to keep them fresh ahead of the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, starting on April 27 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
