Colombo, Oct 5 (NationPress) While India’s score of 247 may not seem substantial, middle-order batswoman Jemimah Rodrigues is confident that it's a competitive total. She emphasized that the pitch and the prevailing conditions in Colombo are perfectly suited for their five bowlers to shine against Pakistan during the ongoing 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup match at the R Premadasa Stadium this Sunday.

“The pitch was challenging since it was covered for 48 hours. The moisture provided some grip, making this total a fighting one for us. We must not underestimate any team. The conditions will greatly benefit our bowlers,” remarked Jemimah, who scored 32 runs, during a mid-innings interview with broadcasters.

A 15-minute delay for pest control in India’s innings resulted in a shortened break. “Honestly, I had to focus more because visibility was limited, but we adapt as needed,” Jemimah added.

India’s innings struggled for rhythm, as many players got starts but failed to convert them into significant scores, resulting in 173 dot balls. At 159/5 in the 35th over, India appeared vulnerable, especially without Amanjot Kaur. It was only in the final four overs that India managed to score 44 runs, enhancing their total.

The score of 247 was bolstered by a late surge from wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, whose rapid, unbeaten 35 provided a much-needed boost. Interestingly, Richa was held back while Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma batted ahead.

“I was batting inside, so I’m not sure. We might have wanted to bring her in for the last few overs, but the strategy was to let her play freely in the last 5-6 overs, which she executed brilliantly today,” Jemimah said.

With grip available and overcast skies, India is eager to validate Jemimah’s assessment and defend their score effectively to achieve their second consecutive victory in this eight-team tournament.
