Indore, Oct 20 (NationPress) England's captain Nat Sciver-Brunt praised her team's remarkable composure and strategic execution after clinching a thrilling four-run victory against India at the Holkar Stadium on Sunday, securing their spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.

This win was propelled by Heather Knight's defining innings of 109 and a commendable bowling performance during the final overs, allowing England to withstand a formidable challenge from the home team in front of an enthusiastic Diwali-eve crowd. “So, so happy. I think everyone just showed how calm they were and really clear on what they wanted to do.”

“We knew we had to stay strong during the bowling innings. A partnership formed between Harman and Smriti, and it seemed like they might chase it down easily, but we recognized that if we could secure a wicket from one end, we could truly apply pressure,” Nat remarked at the game’s conclusion.

England's fielding and death bowling stood out under pressure, demonstrating precision in the final overs. “It's something we've discussed prior to the match. We hadn't faced severe challenges at the end of our innings with the ball. We aimed to be thoroughly prepared in terms of our skills and tactics. Everyone came in with excellent plans and executed them brilliantly,” Nat added.

She also confirmed that Linsey Smith was always intended to bowl the final over, ahead of Sophie Ecclestone. “She (Smith) was always going to bowl the last over. I was unsure about when Sophie would bowl her last over. Luckily, I managed to take a wicket in my over, and she executed perfectly.”

Regarding Heather's outstanding performance, Nat mentioned, “That innings was special. Her utilization of sweeps and reverse sweeps made it challenging for the opposition. She displayed remarkable intent throughout. I thought we could have accumulated more runs. We probably fell short in the last 5-6 overs, but crucial contributions from Charlie were significant as well.”

Looking ahead, England will face Australia, and Nat expressed enthusiasm for the matchup. “That's a massive game - one to anticipate. It's an opportunity to battle with another top side. We're thrilled to have qualified for the knockout stages and aim to carry confidence into those final games.”

Heather, named Player of the Match for her 109-run innings, reflected on her performance with satisfaction and a hint of frustration. “I got myself in and felt the need to accelerate. I believed we needed 300 on that pitch as it had a quick outfield. I was a bit frustrated with how I got out. Without that setback, we could have exceeded 300, and I'm really pleased with my performance.”

“I aimed to deliver a statement performance on a significant occasion, and I'm glad I did. Initially, it felt a bit slow, but compared to previous pitches, the spin was manageable. I had more boundary options and felt liberated in my play.”

When asked about her effective sweep shots, Heather stated, “Once I settled in and started playing reverse sweeps, I got a couple of lucky edges, but I’m pleased with my match-defining innings.”

Speaking about adjusting to life without the captaincy, Heather remarked, “It’s different. Having that responsibility motivates me, so I'm trying to find the right mindset to maximize my performance.”

“Australia is a quality team, and this match presents a great chance to test ourselves against the best. Confidence is high, and we aim to position ourselves favorably as we approach the semi-finals.”
