Indore, Oct 22 (NationPress) After being honored as Player of the Match for her remarkable unbeaten score of 98 and an impressive bowling performance of 3-60 in Australia's six-wicket triumph over England during the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, seam-bowling all-rounder Annabel Sutherland shared that her primary focus was on staying present at the crease and trusting her skills following a challenging phase with the bat.
Annabel's knock of 98 not out off 112 deliveries featured nine boundaries and a six, while she built a solid 180-run partnership with Ashleigh Gardner, who also remained unbeaten on 104, enabling Australia to complete their chase with 57 balls to spare.
"It was pretty enjoyable. Batting with Ash is always a pleasure as she keeps the game flowing. I had a great view from the other end. Honestly, I just wanted to spend some time in the middle. Once you settle in, it was a really nice wicket to bat on. The outfield was quick, and you certainly got value for your runs," she remarked after the match.
She also emphasized the significance of refining her mental approach, determined to seize her batting opportunity. "I aimed to get myself in and keep busy with my partner at the other end. I know once I get settled, I can really capitalize on the scoring opportunities. I’m working on a few mental adjustments to give myself the best chance early in my innings," she stated.
She acknowledged the contributions of the team’s spinners in turning the game around during the middle overs, notably praising Alana King, whose economical figures of 1-20 in ten overs halted England’s progress. "The spinners executed their roles exceptionally well, especially Alana King in the middle overs. They really shifted the momentum and secured crucial wickets throughout the innings," she added.
With this victory, the reigning champions Australia sit atop the points table with 11 points, having yet to suffer a defeat. Their next challenge will be against South Africa at the same venue on October 25.
