Moscow, Oct 23 (NationPress) Four individuals lost their lives and several others sustained injuries due to an explosion at a business in the city of Kopeysk, located in Russia's Chelyabinsk region, as reported by local officials.
Regional Governor Alexei Teksler stated on Wednesday that, at this moment, there is no evidence suggesting a drone attack was involved, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Teksler further mentioned that all emergency services had promptly arrived at the site, and a command center was set up to manage the incident.
He assured that there was no danger to residents or civilian properties in the vicinity.
The explosions took place shortly before midnight local time in the Leninsky district of the city and the adjoining Kopeysk area.
Witnesses reported seeing thick black smoke billowing over the city.
As per the Russian media outlet Astra, the blasts occurred in proximity to the Plastmass military plant on the outskirts of Chelyabinsk.
This facility is known for manufacturing ammunition for artillery systems, tanks, and naval guns, with calibers ranging from 76mm to 152mm.
Pro-Russian Telegram channels, such as Shot, alleged that the Chelyabinsk region had been targeted in a drone attack, claiming that Russian air defenses were activated during the explosions.
The plant, situated nearly 1,800 km from the Ukrainian border, is among Russia's principal producers of conventional artillery munitions.
Previously, Ukrainian drones had struck deep within Russia, targeting significant industrial sites, including a defense-related mechanical plant in Mordovia and a major oil complex in Dagestan.
Ukraine's military routinely targets military infrastructure within occupied territories and deep inside Russia to weaken Moscow's combat capabilities as it continues its conflict with Ukraine.
Ukrainian drones launched a massive air assault on Russia's Bryansk and Rostov oblasts overnight on Tuesday, local authorities reported, injuring two individuals and causing minor damage.
Explosions were also noted near a military base just outside the southern Russian city of Stavropol late on Wednesday, with further reports of explosions at an ammunition plant in Kopeysk.
In Stavropol, a woman reportedly died from shrapnel injuries sustained in the explosion.
Sources indicated a baby stroller containing an explosive device was found near the military site, as reported by local media.
The explosion was said to have occurred at a bus stop adjacent to Russia's 247th Guards Airborne Assault Regiment, according to local reports.
