Colombo, Oct 24 (NationPress) Once again, unseasonable rain dictated the outcome of a cricket match in Colombo. The 25th encounter of the ICC Women’s World Cup between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was called off after a mere 4.2 overs at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Friday night.

Continuous downpours forced players off the field with Pakistan at 18 runs without loss, leaving both teams with just one point each as further play was impossible.

The toss itself was postponed for nearly three hours due to the unyielding monsoon rains that have plagued the Colombo segment of the tournament. When the skies briefly cleared, the match was modified to a 34-over-per-side format, incorporating a seven-over Power-play. According to the adjusted bowling rules, one bowler could deliver a maximum of seven overs, while four others were restricted to six each.

This match was significant for both teams, already out of contention for the semifinals, as it offered a chance to conclude their tournament on a high note. However, the rain had different ideas, marking the fifth match to end without a result in Colombo this tournament.
