Rawalpindi, Feb 27 (NationPress) Issy Wong and Ryana MacDonald-Gay have been named in the 15-member England Women Cricket Pathway (EWCP) squad that will participate in a training camp in Abu Dhabi. The team is scheduled to depart for Abu Dhabi on Thursday and will return to the United Kingdom on March 8.

In addition to the two, Grace Potts, Emma Jones, Alexa Stonehouse, and Katie George are part of the squad from the ECB’s pace programme. They are joined by several players who represented England during last year’s tour of Ireland, alongside Essex and former England Women U19 players Grace Scrivens and Jodi Grewcock. Issy has received a Development Contract from the ECB for the 2024-25 season and most recently participated in England’s white-ball series against Ireland in September of last year. In contrast, Ryana played for England in their women’s Ashes series loss in Australia.

The aim of the training camp is to enhance the skills of the 15-member squad and provide them with competitive outdoor practice. “We are eagerly anticipating this camp in Abu Dhabi, which will serve as a crucial training block for all 15 players in a warm setting, practicing on grass,” stated Chris Liddle, England Women Performance Pace Bowling Coach.

“Within the player group, we are also enthusiastic about the next stage of our pace programme and exposing the players to scenario training and its associated challenges. We have witnessed significant improvements over the winter in each player, and this camp will further facilitate their growth, enabling them to build on the progress made under increased pressure,” he added.

Issy debuted in all three formats in 2022, taking 16 wickets to date, and was regarded as one of England's most promising fast-bowling talents before a dip in form led to her exclusion from the national team.
