New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy expressed her enjoyment of the unpredictability present in the points table of the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). She noted that the ambiguity surrounding team standings has captivated both players and spectators alike.
Except for the already qualified Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the remaining four teams – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants – are still competing for the last two playoff positions. The recent victory of DC over RCB has kept the race for the playoffs wide open.
"This victory was crucial for Delhi Capitals against RCB, especially with their upcoming game against Gujarat Giants. These two points provide them a significant advantage going into that match.
“Without this win, the situation could have been quite different for Jemimah Rodrigues and her team. I truly appreciate the uncertainty in the points table; it keeps everyone on their toes. The outcome is unpredictable, and we never know who will qualify, which is what keeps the tournament vibrant,” Veda shared on JioStar.
The pivotal moment in the match occurred when off-spinner Minnu Mani dismissed RCB captain Smriti Mandhana, which significantly shifted momentum in favor of DC. Veda highlighted how this strategic bowling change led to a batting collapse for RCB.
"Another off-spinner managed to take down Smriti Mandhana, but in a rather unique manner. Her dismissal swung the momentum towards Delhi Capitals as she was maintaining a steady hold for RCB until her exit. Although she wasn’t scoring at the desired pace, she was looking solid.
“Everyone knows she has the potential to dominate and score big. Delhi Capitals must be pleased with their decision to include Minnu Mani, who bowled exceptionally well to secure two crucial wickets during the middle overs,” she added.
Veda was particularly impressed by the performance of uncapped pacer Nandni Sharma, who claimed 3-26 and earned a spot in the India A squad for the Rising Star Women’s Asia Cup. She expressed strong belief in the young pacer’s capability to represent the nation at the highest level.
"I admire how Nandni Sharma utilizes her slower balls. Her slingy action and the execution of her back-of-the-hand slower ball surpasses that of many bowlers. She’s performing admirably. She has shown great potential in domestic cricket for Chandigarh and is gaining invaluable experience with the Delhi Capitals.
“With Marizanne Kapp around, she is eager to learn, and even after the game, she spent time with Kapp, demonstrating her desire to improve. It’s fantastic to see an uncapped pace bowler thriving. I am eagerly anticipating Nandni Sharma's debut for India, and I can’t wait to see her take numerous wickets,” she concluded.
