New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) Former opener Aakash Chopra discussed the likelihood of Yash Dhull securing a spot in an Indian Premier League (IPL) team during the upcoming mini-auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16. He noted that the right-handed batsman’s status as one of the top run-scorers in this year’s Delhi Premier League (DPL) will significantly bolster his prospects.
Dhull, who led India to victory in the U19 World Cup in 2022, scored an impressive 435 runs in eight matches for the Central Delhi Kings, who ended as the runners-up this season. Though he was part of the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023, he struggled to make an impact in the four matches he participated in.
“Yash Dhull's journey is truly motivational. He was seen as a promising talent who would soon don the Indian jersey. Although that dream hasn't materialized yet, he continues to accumulate runs. He seizes every chance he gets, no matter where he plays,” Chopra stated on JioStar.
“Maintaining relevance over time is crucial so that when an opportunity arises, people remember him. This season of the DPL was excellent for him at the crease, and those performances will undoubtedly aid him in the IPL,” he added.
“He is a U19 World Cup winner, and regarding the IPL, he was selected by the Delhi Capitals a few seasons back, receiving multiple opportunities but failing to capitalize. I believe Yash Dhull is checking all the boxes and keeping himself in the minds of those following the sport through his DPL performances,” he remarked.
While other DPL players like Tejasvi Dahiya and Arpit Rana are also on the radar of IPL scouts, former Indian women’s cricket player Reema Malhotra believes that someone like Sarthak Ranjan, who scored 449 runs in nine innings this season, could also find his way into any of the ten teams.
“Sarthak Ranjan is a fearless batsman who plays each ball according to its merit. The shots he executed in this season of the DPL were a delight to watch. He would have certainly attracted the attention of IPL scouts. Teams will gain a pure T20 batsman in him, who not only excels in the powerplay but can also anchor the innings,” she concluded.
