Liverpool, May 17 (NationPress) Everton has officially announced that Ashley Young along with goalkeepers Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia will part ways with the club when their contracts conclude at the end of the upcoming season next month. Manager David Moyes remarked, “Since my return to the club, I’ve recognized what a remarkable professional Ash is and appreciate the leadership attributes he has contributed to the squad during his tenure at Everton. His versatility, experience, and expertise have been incredibly advantageous to both the team and myself.
“Asmir and Joao have also shown immense diligence and maintained an exemplary conduct. On behalf of everyone at the club, I extend my gratitude to all three players for their contributions, and we wish them the utmost success in their future endeavors,” he stated.
Young joined the Blues in July 2023, and his experience, leadership, and adaptability have proven to be invaluable over the past two seasons.
As we approach Sunday’s final Premier League match at Goodison Park, Young has made 68 appearances for Everton across various positions, netting goals against Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Begovic returned to Everton last summer after previously spending two years with the club from 2021 to 2023, making 10 appearances during those two periods.
Virginia, who signed for Everton from Arsenal in August 2018, has made eight appearances for the Men’s Senior Team at the age of 25.
Both goalkeepers have offered crucial competition and support for Jordan Pickford during their time with the Blues.
“This situation is quite intricate, with numerous players out of contract this summer. It’s essential for me to discuss matters with each player individually to provide clarity regarding their situations,” Moyes added.
“Numerous factors influence our decision-making process, and we are currently navigating that with the players, which requires time. Some will receive clarity by the end of this week, while for others, it might extend to next week, but it’s vital that we handle it appropriately.
“Additionally, we have five players on loan, and we will inform them of their situations in due course,” he concluded.
