Islamabad, Nov 21 (NationPress) - At least 15 individuals lost their lives and numerous others sustained injuries following a gas explosion at a factory located near the Malikpur area in Faisalabad, Pakistan, as reported by local media on Friday.
Rescue officials stated that a building and adjacent structures were demolished after the factory's boiler exploded early on Friday morning, according to Dawn, a prominent daily in Pakistan. The rescue team later clarified that the incident was triggered by a gas leak, as noted in a statement released by the Faisalabad Commissioner's office.
The statement indicated that no boiler was in operation at the factory, while four factories were functioning in the Malikpur vicinity. It was reported, 'A fire erupted in one of the factories due to a gas leak, which subsequently spread to the other factories.'
Additionally, seven homes in the vicinity were affected by the gas explosion, leading to the collapse of the factory roof and nearby houses.
The commissioner's office confirmed that 15 bodies had been retrieved from the debris. A total of 10 injured individuals were transported to the hospital for medical attention, with three of them discharged after receiving first aid. Furthermore, a five-member team was formed to investigate the incident.
Earlier reports stated that the rescue operation was conducted at a glue factory, involving over 20 ambulances and fire trucks. The Faisalabad Control Room received the explosion alert from the glue factory at 5:28 AM local time.
