Delhi Police arrest 3 overstaying Nigerian nationals under Operation VISTA 1.0
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Police on Monday, 11 August 2025, arrested three Nigerian nationals found to be overstaying in India without valid documentation, as part of Operation VISTA 1.0 — a special drive launched by the Delhi Police Commissioner to identify and verify illegal foreign residents. One of the three had reportedly been evading trial in a criminal case registered in 2020.
How the Operation Unfolded
Under the directions of DCP Dwarka Kushal Pal Singh and the supervision of ACP Subhash Malik of the Operations Cell, Dwarka, a Special Staff team led by Inspector Kamlesh Kumar was constituted on 11 August to trace overstaying foreign nationals and check the status of those with pending criminal cases.
The team — comprising Sub-Inspectors Rakesh Kumar and Topesh, ASI Rajender, Head Constables Kuldeep, Parveen, Adesh, Bachchu Singh, and Dheeraj, and Constables Hemraj and Ravi — visited Uttam Nagar, engaging local residents and informants to gather intelligence on foreign nationals in the area.
Arrests and Verification
Using a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, the team apprehended three Nigerian nationals from the Uttam Nagar area. During questioning, none of the three could produce valid documents to establish their legal stay in India.
They were subsequently produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi, for formal verification. Following that process, the FRRO ordered two of them to be transferred to the Lampur detention centre, where they were handed over to the Superintendent for further action.
The Third Accused: Evading Trial Since 2020
The third individual, identified as Amoney Junior Yau, 32, son of Amoney, was found to be linked to FIR No. 120/20, dated 25 March 2020, registered at Police Station Narela, Delhi under Sections 186, 353, 323, 427, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). According to police, Yau had been evading trial in the case, and bailable warrants had been issued against him by a court, returnable on 23 September. The Station House Officer (SHO) concerned has been informed for further legal proceedings.
Who Was Arrested
The three apprehended individuals were identified as Justice, 41, son of Onyenze; Stanley Devbid, 36; and Amoney Junior Yau, 32, son of Amoney. All three are Nigerian nationals.
What Comes Next
The Dwarka District Police stated that further efforts are underway to identify and detain additional foreign nationals residing in the capital without valid documentation. Operation VISTA 1.0 is expected to continue across other districts as part of a broader enforcement push.
