Key Takeaways
Chennai, Dec 23 (NationPress) In anticipation of a significant increase in travelers during the Christmas season, the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) has unveiled plans for 900 special bus services originating from Chennai to various regions across Tamil Nadu over the next two days.
Transport officials project a notable surge in travel as residents from Chennai and other prominent cities return to their hometowns and places of worship for the celebrations. To meet this heightened demand, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has opted to deploy these special buses alongside regular services to ensure seamless travel for all.
Most of the special services will commence from the Kilambakkam Integrated Bus Terminus, which facilitates long-distance travel from southern Chennai.
On Wednesday, 255 special buses will be operational, and on Thursday, 525 buses will connect Chennai to various parts of the state. These services will focus on high-demand destinations such as Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur.
These key locations typically experience heavy passenger traffic during festive seasons, particularly among office workers and students returning to their native areas. Additionally, special buses will serve routes from Chennai and Coimbatore to Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur, and Bengaluru.
A total of 91 special buses have been organized for these routes over the two days, with an extra 20 special buses set to operate from Madhavaram in North Chennai to alleviate passenger congestion.
Officials indicate that return services will also be available on Sunday based on demand, facilitating the journey back to Chennai and Bengaluru after the Christmas festivities.
Travelers are encouraged to plan their trips ahead of time and utilize official booking platforms to avoid last-minute hassles. The transport corporations emphasize that these additional services are designed to provide safe, comfortable, and timely travel during this festive period.
