Mumbai, Jan 18 (NationPress) Renowned music composer A R Rahman is currently facing significant backlash regarding his comments on 'communal' bias within the Hindi film industry.
In light of the criticism, Rahman took to social media to express his perspective.
In a video posted on Instagram, he emphasized that India is not just his home but also a source of inspiration and guidance. He clarified that he has never intended to hurt anyone's feelings.
In the video, Rahman stated, "Dear friends, music has consistently been my medium for connection, celebration, and honoring a culture. India is my muse, my educator, and my residence. I recognize that intentions can sometimes be misinterpreted, yet my goal has always been to uplift, honor, and serve through music. I have never aimed to inflict pain, and I hope my authenticity resonates with you."
Rahman expressed gratitude for being an Indian, which allows him the opportunity to work in an environment that values freedom of expression and embraces diverse voices.
Reflecting on his artistic journey, which he believes has reinforced his mission, he added, "From presenting Jala at the Wave Summit in front of the Honourable Prime Minister to collaborating with emerging Naga musicians for a string orchestra, mentoring the Sunshine Orchestra, and creating Secret Mountain, India's premier multicultural virtual band, as well as scoring the Ramayana alongside Hans Zimmer, each experience has solidified my purpose."
Concluding the video, he expressed his appreciation for India and reiterated his dedication to music that "respects the past, celebrates the present, and inspires the future."
In a recent conversation with the BBC Asian Network, Rahman commented on the limited opportunities he has encountered in Bollywood.
He remarked, "Individuals lacking creativity now wield decision-making power, and while this may have communal implications, it hasn't been directly communicated to me. I hear it through the grapevine that I've been booked, yet the music company goes ahead and hires five other composers. I thought, 'Well, that's wonderful, I can relax and spend time with my family.'"
