Synopsis

In a recent statement, AAP MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer urged Punjab farmers to hold protests targeting the Central government. He highlighted the detrimental impacts of interstate border closures on Punjab's economy and industries, stressing the need for job creation and support for farmers.

Key Takeaways

  • Support for Farmers: AAP continues to back farmers' rights.
  • Protests Strategy: Farmers urged to protest where it impacts the Central government.
  • Economic Impact: Border closures harming Punjab's economy and revenue.
  • Drug Addiction Concern: Urgent action needed against youth drug addiction.
  • Job Creation: New industries essential for employment opportunities.

Chandigarh, March 20 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer emphasized on Thursday that the ruling party in Punjab has consistently stood by farmers and will persist in this support. He urged them to stage protests "where they can impact the Central government."

However, due to the closure of interstate borders, a situation has arisen causing even industries established in Punjab to depart.

He appealed to farmers to open one side of the border, stating that the BJP-led Central government in Delhi would not face any repercussions from this action.

"Instead, it is directly detrimental to Punjab, resulting in the state government losing hundreds of crores in revenue, and industries are exiting Punjab," Hayer remarked in his statement.

He pointed out that unemployment had previously driven the youth towards drug addiction.

"In the last 20-22 years, unemployment in Punjab has surged significantly. The announcement of very few government jobs has left youth without proper guidance, pushing them into the realm of drugs."

Hayer mentioned that the Punjab government is currently taking continuous action against the drug menace. Drug traffickers are either incarcerated or have fled Punjab, and initiatives are underway to help youth trapped in drug addiction emerge from this dilemma.

He added that previous governments neglected the industrial sector as their party leaders sought a share in businesses, which led to industries exiting the state.

"Now, the Aam Aadmi Party government is focused on providing employment to youth and fostering industries, which is essential at this juncture."

He stated that to provide jobs to the youth, it is vital for industries to be established in Punjab and for investments to flow into the state.

The AAP MP asserted that Punjab has lagged significantly today.

Until 2003, Punjab was among the leading contributors to the country's GDP, but today, "we have fallen to the 19th position. This clearly indicates that our economy is veering off course," Hayer noted.

He proclaimed that Punjab's economy would only strengthen with the arrival of new industries and job creation.

Hayer, being from a farming family himself, has always backed the farmers.

He called upon the farmers of Punjab, stating, "Let us protest where it impacts the Central government. Closing the border here solely harms Punjab. The Central government remains unaffected by this, even though the entire matter pertains to them."
