Kolkata, April 20 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal’s Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Monday, mocked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her job pledges aimed at the Kolkata employees of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), coinciding with reports that I-PAC has paused its operations in the state for a period of 20 days, instructing its Kolkata employees to take "short leave".

Following the announcement about the email sent to I-PAC employees, the Trinamool Congress initially described the information as unfounded. Nonetheless, during a campaign rally in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, the Chief Minister reiterated her job commitments to I-PAC’s Kolkata office workers and claimed to have discussed the issue with the party’s General Secretary and Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee.

"The Enforcement Directorate is conducting daily raids, particularly during the elections. Those working for us are being coerced into leaving the state. You can employ numerous agencies on your side. Why can’t we also have that? If you intimidate them, they will join my party, and we will offer them jobs. Remember, I won’t let a single young person go without employment. I spoke to Abhishek Banerjee about this earlier today... Let me be clear, this is a conspiracy. How much more lawlessness will you engage in, and how many more votes will you truncate? After this, you will initiate the NRC," stated the Chief Minister on Sunday.

On Monday morning, Suvendu Adhikari took to social media to deride the Chief Minister’s job assurances for I-PAC employees, asserting that her failure to protect the positions of "untainted teachers" who are currently without jobs due to the multi-crore cash-for-school job scandal in West Bengal renders her claims even more ludicrous.

"You have taken away jobs from qualified individuals, making one false promise after another merely to safeguard your own position. No one has had their jobs reinstated. Now you are extending job offers to those who crafted your deceitful promises to distract everyone and preserve your own interests. The entire nation is aware of your capability in providing jobs. All you seem to do is sell employment to the unqualified while depriving the deserving and then orchestrating a spectacle of lies," Adhikari remarked.

Point of View

The exchange between Suvendu Adhikari and Mamata Banerjee highlights the ongoing tensions ahead of elections. While Mamata's job promises aim to reassure, skepticism arises from past unfulfilled commitments, reflecting a broader narrative of political accountability.
