Ahmedabad, April 15 (NationPress) The Ahmedabad Crime Branch successfully confiscated 412 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 12.36 lakh and apprehended two individuals during a raid conducted in the Gheekanta locality of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, according to officials on Wednesday.
Officials noted that this operation was initiated based on targeted intelligence gathered during patrolling activities related to the upcoming elections.
The raid took place on April 13 near the Laxmi Mata temple, adjacent to Navtad Pol.
Law enforcement stated that their team was actively patrolling to ensure law and order ahead of the elections when they received reliable information about unlawful narcotics activities in the vicinity.
“Upon receiving specific intelligence, a raid was executed at the identified location, where the suspects were caught with a significant quantity of mephedrone without any authorization,” officials reported.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Malaram Devasi (26) and Ashok Kumar Darji (35), both residents of Saraspur in Ahmedabad.
According to authorities, Devasi originates from Maru Khera village in Jalore district of Rajasthan, while Darji is from Tetoda village in Banaskantha district.
The total weight of the seized narcotic substance was 412 grams, valued at Rs 12,36,000.
Additionally, officers recovered three mobile phones worth Rs 20,000, cash amounting to Rs 3,500, and various items including an empty zipper bag, a plastic bag, a cloth carry bag, a newspaper, and a college bag.
The cumulative estimated value of the confiscated items is Rs 12,59,500.
A case has been registered at the DCB police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the two suspects and the supplier of the narcotics.
“An extensive investigation is underway to identify and take legal action against the supplier of the mephedrone and to explore the broader network,” the police stated.
In a related incident on April 12, the city Crime Branch apprehended two additional suspects in the Behrampura area, discovering 52.410 grams of mephedrone valued at Rs 1,57,230.
Acting on precise intelligence, officers conducted a raid in an open area near Santoshnagar Four Buildings and arrested Hasmukh Sargara (27) and Manish Sargara (26), both residing in Santoshnagar and natives of Barmer district in Rajasthan.
Authorities reported that the suspects were found in possession of the illegal substance without any permit.
During this operation, officers also seized the narcotic along with three mobile phones valued at Rs 15,000, cash amounting to Rs 6,000, a scooter, a pocket weighing scale, and several empty zipper bags.
The total estimated value of the seized items in this case was Rs 1,98,920, and a case has been filed under the NDPS Act with further legal proceedings pending.
