Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Nov 28 (NationPress) The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has officially declared numerous events across the state to commemorate the ninth death anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on December 5.
The party emphasized that her passing was an irreparable loss to the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly for the marginalized communities, as stated in a recent announcement.
Leading the main tribute event at the Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Memorial on Marina Beach in Chennai will be AIADMK's general secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), scheduled for 10 a.m. on December 5.
Numerous senior leaders, MPs, MLAs, and party members are anticipated to attend in significant numbers to present floral tributes to Jayalalithaa.
The AIADMK remarked, "Jayalalithaa’s life and leadership continue to inspire millions across the state. Her time as Chief Minister ushered in a transformative era for Tamil Nadu."
The party also highlighted her groundbreaking work in areas such as social welfare, women’s empowerment, child nutrition, education, healthcare, and law and order, which greatly benefited the most vulnerable sections of society.
Her governance legacy remains unparalleled, with the advantages of her welfare programs still positively impacting the populace today, according to the AIADMK.
On the ninth anniversary of her passing on December 5, 2016, the AIADMK pointed out that the people of Tamil Nadu, especially women, students, and farmers, deeply feel her absence.
Tribute events will be organized in every district, town, municipality, panchayat, and grassroots unit of the AIADMK. The party has also called upon all members and the public to assemble at the Marina Memorial to honor a leader dedicated to the welfare and dignity of Tamil Nadu's citizens.
Similar events are planned by AIADMK units in all other states and Union Territories.
The death of Jayalalithaa triggered fierce rivalry within the AIADMK, leading to a split between factions loyal to her former aide, V K Sasikala, and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam. Although both factions later united under a collaborative arrangement between Panneerselvam and Palaniswami, tensions have persisted.
Currently, Palaniswami has solidified his position as the party’s general secretary, while Panneerselvam has been sidelined.
