New Delhi, Nov 17 (NationPress) On Monday, Air India revealed plans to resume non-stop flights linking Delhi and Shanghai, China, with operations commencing on February 1, 2026.

This development signifies Air India's comeback to mainland China after almost six years.

The airline also expressed intentions to launch non-stop flights between Mumbai and Shanghai in 2026, pending necessary regulatory approvals.

Air India will operate flights four times weekly from Delhi to Shanghai utilizing its Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which features 18 flat beds in Business Class and 238 comfortable seats in Economy Class.

With this route, Shanghai becomes the 48th international destination served by the Air India group, which continues to lead in international passenger numbers among Indian airlines.

“The revival of our Delhi-Shanghai service is not just about launching a new route; it connects two rich, historic civilizations and modern economic leaders,” stated Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India.

“At Air India, we are thrilled to reopen one of the world’s most essential air corridors, allowing travelers to explore opportunities in business, trade, healthcare, education, and culture, all while enjoying the warm Indian hospitality that defines us,” he added.

This reinstatement follows recent diplomatic agreements between India and China, which reinstated air links that had been paused since early 2020. Air India initially launched non-stop services to mainland China in October 2000.

The renewed connection is anticipated to enhance exchanges in pharmaceuticals, technology, education, and various other fields.

Booking options for flights between Delhi and Shanghai are being progressively rolled out across all channels.
