AIUDF MLA Critiques Congress for Helping BJP in Assam
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 24 (NationPress) Rafiqul Islam, an MLA for the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has voiced criticism against both the BJP and Congress, suggesting that the ruling party capitalizes on societal division while Congress has not positioned itself as a credible opposition in Assam. He pointed out that rather than confronting the BJP, Congress is focusing its efforts on targeting AIUDF, ultimately aiding the ruling party.
In an interview with IANS, Islam accused the BJP of fostering communalism and failing to fulfill its commitment to inclusive development.
“While the BJP claims to support ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’, it has, in truth, exacerbated societal divisions and overlooked the real issues faced by ordinary citizens,” the AIUDF legislator asserted.
Discussing his party's electoral strategy in light of the forthcoming Assembly elections, Islam revealed that AIUDF plans to contest in approximately 30 to 32 constituencies.
“We have laid a robust foundation in these constituencies. Our grassroots organizational strength is formidable, and we are optimistic about our chances,” he stated.
Islam further criticized Congress for what he deemed a misguided electoral strategy.
He believes Congress should directly confront the BJP in Upper Assam, where it holds significant sway.
“Instead of directly challenging the BJP in Upper Assam, Congress is concentrating solely on minority-majority constituencies. This strategy is diluting the opposition's effectiveness,” he added.
Moreover, the AIUDF MLA asserted that Congress is experiencing internal decline, highlighting that several of its MLAs and senior officials have recently defected to the BJP.
“Numerous Congress MLAs and prominent leaders have already transitioned to the BJP, with many more expected to follow suit. This trend is concerning for Congress,” Islam remarked.
He reiterated that Congress's focus on AIUDF instead of the BJP is inadvertently benefiting the ruling party politically.
“The Congress is essentially competing against AIUDF rather than the BJP, which is advantageous for the BJP,” he noted.
In conclusion, Islam emphasized that AIUDF’s primary aim is to prevent the BJP from regaining power in Assam.
“Our mission is straightforward — to ensure that the BJP does not come back to power and that the citizens of Assam receive a government that prioritizes unity and justice,” he expressed.
