Ajit Pawar Encourages Merchants to Utilize Amnesty Scheme for SGST Dues Settlement

Nagpur, Dec 18 (NationPress) Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, on Wednesday urged the merchants to take full advantage of the Amnesty Scheme introduced by the state government, aimed at waiving interest, penalties, or both concerning State GST demands from the fiscal years 2017-18 and 2018-19.
The deadline for settling these dues is March 31, 2025. This Amnesty Scheme has been initiated under section 73 of the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
The Bill was introduced by Pawar in the state Assembly.
While addressing the Assembly, Ajit Pawar mentioned that approximately 1.14 lakh applications are anticipated from taxpayers within the state authority's jurisdiction.
The total disputed amount, which includes tax and penalties, is around Rs 54,000 crore. This figure consists of Rs 27,000 crore pertaining to disputed tax and another Rs 27,000 crore related to penalties.
Based on previous experiences, it is expected that around 20 percent of the disputed tax amount will be deposited into the scheme.
Consequently, an estimated Rs 5,500 crore to Rs 6,000 crore is likely to be contributed under this initiative.
Out of this total, Rs 2,700 crore to Rs 3,000 crore will be allocated to the state government, while the remainder will be directed to the Central government.
This scheme will provide traders with relief from interest and penalties amounting to approximately Rs 5,500 crore to Rs 6,000 crore.
Pawar informed the Assembly that efforts are being made to widely disseminate information regarding the Abhay scheme to taxpayers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and the general public.
