A spokesperson for the defense stated that they acted on credible intelligence regarding narcotics trafficking, which led them to conduct a raid in the Zemabawk locality of Aizawl district on Wednesday afternoon.
During this operation, the paramilitary forces halted a suspicious vehicle. A swift and meticulous search resulted in the discovery of 9.8 kg of highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, collectively worth over Rs 29.4 crore.
The drugs were cleverly hidden within the vehicle's tires and were detected thanks to a sniffer dog.
Methamphetamine tablets are classified as illegal psychotropic substances in India.
The seized drugs and the vehicle were transferred to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Aizawl Field Office, for further investigation and appropriate legal measures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The arrested drug dealer, identified as Lalrinchhana, hails from Dawrkawn in Aizawl district and was taken into custody during this operation. An official statement highlighted that the prompt and decisive actions of the Assam Rifles reflect their unwavering dedication to combating drug trafficking.
This operation underscores ongoing collective efforts to shield the youth of Mizoram from the detrimental impacts of narcotics and to uphold peace and security in the region, the statement emphasized.
