Chandigarh, April 10 (NationPress) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) stated on Thursday that Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had requested the Election Commission to halt the party's organizational elections under the instructions of his superiors Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in coordination with the dissident Akali faction.

Senior SAD member Daljit Singh Cheema remarked that Randhawa's appeal to the Election Commission (EC) represented a desperate attempt to hinder SAD's resurgence in the political arena.

“Previously, the dissenting faction aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and even the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) posed challenges to SAD. Now, they have formed an alliance with Congress. This not only reveals the true nature of the rebel group but also indicates that all parties involved are intimidated by SAD,” he expressed to the press.

Cheema emphasized that SAD consistently maintained that the rebel faction was attempting to connect the party's membership campaign with religion and sought to have it derecognized. He indicated that the connection between the rebel faction and Randhawa has validated this claim.

He also urged the Congress leadership, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, to confront SAD openly instead of engaging in covert maneuvers by presenting partisan figures like Randhawa as ‘whistleblowers’ to the Election Commission.

Cheema criticized Randhawa for wanting his complaint kept confidential while simultaneously giving media interviews about it.

Regarding the complaint concerning the election at Teja Singh Samundri Hall, he clarified that the hall is part of the administrative block of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and it is customary to conduct the SAD presidential election there.

“SAD has also secured permission to hold the meeting in the hall beforehand,” the Akali leader mentioned.

Cheema firmly stated that such desperate and politically driven attempts to disrupt SAD's organizational elections will not succeed.

“The delegate session will appoint the new party president on April 12, which will be succeeded by a significant political conference on April 13,” he concluded.
