New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) The head of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, criticized the “Skill India Mission” on Tuesday, labeling it a mere facade, arguing that the government has redirected the youth towards roles as delivery personnel instead of fostering genuine skill development.
During a Lok Sabha discussion opposing the Union Budget 2025-26, the Kannauj MP asserted that there is a lack of a conducive environment for investment, which is essential for authentic “Vikas”.
Addressing concerns such as India's declining position in the hunger index and the reduction in the education budget, Yadav remarked that the government envisions India as the world’s food basket yet it remains a ‘jumlebazi’ (empty slogan) unless it first addresses domestic hunger.
“The hunger index statistics reveal the hollow achievements being touted by the government,” he stated, criticizing the insufficient actions taken to manage rising prices.
He further condemned the Budget for lacking initiatives to alleviate poverty, enhance education and healthcare services, and generate employment opportunities.
“The Budget lacks a clear path for advancement,” he asserted, accusing the government of concentrating wealth among a select few while widening societal disparities and infringing on tribal rights, emphasizing the urgent need for financial reforms.
“Asli traqi hai wohi jo har farq mitati hai, jo har tarf khushhali ke gul failati hai (True progress is the one which brings about all-around prosperity and removes disparity),” he noted.
“Real development is that which reduces inequality, and an ideal Budget is one that is democratic, facilitates comprehensive growth, and empowers the most marginalized,” he added.
Criticizing the sluggish economic performance, Yadav remarked that the government’s assertion of the Budget being aimed at boosting progress exposes the reality of stagnant growth over the past 11 years due to inadequate investment.
He also lamented the Indian stock market's reliance on foreign investments.
Yadav pointed out that the BJP government’s latest Budget fails to provide anything substantial for national development or the advancement of citizens.
“There’s a lack of specific support or acknowledgment of MSMEs in the Budget,” he stated, arguing that most of these units do not benefit from the government’s schemes as only a small percentage are officially registered.
He advocated for targeted programs for farmers, including loan waivers, ensuring Minimum Support Prices (MSP), and measures to protect crops from stray animals.
Moreover, he called for initiatives to combat misinformation, alleging that the government is preoccupied with promoting its successes while simultaneously discrediting its opponents.
Yadav denounced demonetization and the implementation of GST as the nation’s paramount economic blunders.
He recounted the story of a boy born while his mother stood in a bank during demonetization, suggesting the government should take responsibility for him. “We named him khazanchi (treasurer), and he has now grown up to ride a bicycle,” he shared.
