New York, Sep 8 (NationPress) Following his remarkable sixth major victory and second title at the US Open, Carlos Alcaraz has redirected his ambitions towards achieving his most significant aim of completing a Career Grand Slam and a calendar slam.
Alcaraz proudly holds two titles each from Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The only title remaining is the Australian Open, where he aims to secure triumph at the start of the upcoming season.
“It's honestly my primary goal. As I approach the preseason, I reflect on what I want to enhance and achieve; the Australian Open is always at the forefront. It's typically the first or second tournament of the year, making it my main objective to complete a Career Grand Slam and a Calendar Grand Slam. It’s going to be fantastic,” Alcaraz expressed.
Alcaraz triumphed over Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, marking his sixth major title and second at the US Open. With this victory, he also became the second youngest male player in history to win six Grand Slam titles.
Thanks to his success in New York, the Spaniard reclaimed the top position in the ATP rankings for the first time since September 2023, commencing his 37th week at No. 1 this Monday.
Reflecting on his return to World No. 1, Alcaraz remarked, “Recovering the No. 1 spot was one of my initial goals this season; I aimed to regain it as quickly as possible or finish the year as the No. 1.”
“Achieving this again is like a dream. Accomplishing it on the same day as winning another Grand Slam is even more rewarding. It’s everything I have been striving for, and I am truly grateful to experience these moments,” he added.
Notably, following his US Open victory, Alcaraz has become the fourth player in history to win multiple major titles across all three surfaces (two on hard, two on clay, and two on grass). He joins the elite company of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Mats Wilander on this prestigious list.
