During the 56th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, which was chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Wednesday, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav conveyed that the State is in full support of the reforms suggested by the Centre.
He emphasized that these reforms are designed to benefit the poor and marginalized.
The two-day assembly is anticipated to discuss a significant overhaul of GST rates, measures to simplify compliance, and next-level reforms.
Regarding the stance of the Andhra Pradesh government, Minister Keshav noted that these reforms align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on Independence Day, referring to it as a “Diwali gift” for citizens.
“As an alliance partner, the Andhra Pradesh government endorses these GST reforms proposed by the Government of India. Many of them are focused on assisting the common populace and the most impoverished. They pertain to vital sectors including food, education, health, steel, cement, and textiles,” Minister Keshav stated.
As a key ally of the NDA, he mentioned that TDP President and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has also shown support for the reforms, labeling them as a crucial step towards economic recovery and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
“These reforms aim to foster the Indian economy while standardizing tax rates on essential goods, thereby lowering expenses for households and providing relief to millions,” the Minister highlighted.
“The proposed reforms are intended to guarantee that benefits reach consumers. There exists a mutual understanding from the Government of India to all participating states, including those in opposition, that the consumer should reap the benefits,” the Finance Minister stressed.
