Birmingham, June 30 (NationPress) England's fast bowler Jofra Archer will be rejoining the Test team at Edgbaston on Tuesday after being compelled to miss the training session due to a family emergency ahead of the significant match against India on Monday.
Archer has participated in 13 Tests for England, capturing 42 wickets at an average of 31.04. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed, "England men's fast bowler Jofra Archer will not be attending the England Test squad's training session at Edgbaston today (June 30), due to a family emergency."
"He is anticipated to rejoin the squad tomorrow, Tuesday, in advance of the Rothesay second Test at Edgbaston, which kicks off on Wednesday against India," stated the ECB in a recent announcement.
Previously, Archer made a comeback to the England Test setup for the first time since February 2021 after being selected for the second Test against India. A recurrence of an elbow injury and a stress fracture in his back had kept him largely out of Test matches since February 2021.
His selection followed a performance for Sussex in the recent County Championship against Durham at Chester-le-Street, marking his first red-ball appearance in four years, where he returned figures of 1-32 in 18 overs.
Besides Archer, the fast bowling lineup for England at the Edgbaston Test includes Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Sam Cook, and Jamie Overton. England currently leads the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series 1-0, having secured a thrilling five-wicket victory with a successful chase of 371 at Headingley.
Another win at Edgbaston would provide them the opportunity to clinch the five-match series in the third game at Lord’s, starting on July 10. The squad, led by Ben Stokes, also includes former England all-rounder Moeen Ali in a coaching consultancy role for the upcoming Test at Edgbaston.
