Chandigarh, Nov 29 (NationPress) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) asserted on Saturday that the detention of Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of the party’s Tarn Taran candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, during the recent Assembly by-election, constitutes a breach of the high court's directives.
He expressed gratitude to the court for intervening and halting any police custody related to the case until the trial court hears it.
The head of SAD’s legal cell, Arshdeep Singh Kler, disclosed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the DGP, and senior police officials contested the high court ruling after it granted interim bail to Kanchanpreet in four cases by incorporating non-bailable charges in another case against her.
“It is evident that the AAP government has coerced the police to detain Kanchanpreet out of spite,” he mentioned in a statement. He emphasized that the AAP administration was attempting to fabricate a false narrative against Kanchanpreet, asserting, “The truth is that no criminal complaint was filed against her prior to the elections.”
Kler remarked that law enforcement officials who registered the baseless cases against her and subsequently arrested her without adhering to proper procedures would be held accountable for their blatantly unlawful actions. The SAD leader indicated that he submitted a petition to the high court on Saturday, during which instructions were issued to the trial court not to grant any remand in the case until Kanchanpreet’s attorneys arrived in court.
“Thus, the trial court will determine whether the inclusion of the non-bailable charge in the bailable FIR was justified,” he added.
In the meantime, the Akali Dal criticized the government for targeting a young female leader with fabricated allegations, underscoring that the administration exhibited a blatant disregard for the daughters of Punjab and the rule of law. Senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema urged all democratic, social, and women’s organizations to rise above political divides and denounce this abhorrent abuse of authority. “This malevolence must be extinguished at its roots. Such unconstitutional acts cannot be tolerated on the sacred soil of our revered Gurus,” he concluded.
