London, Nov 11 (NationPress) Arsenal's Premier League match against Everton in December has been rescheduled. The game at the Toffees' new Hill Dickinson Stadium will now occur on Saturday, December 20 at 8 pm.

This match was initially set for Sunday, December 21. However, the EFL scheduled Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal against Crystal Palace for Tuesday, December 23, because of the Eagles’ involvement in the UEFA Conference League.

Before tickets went on sale for the Gunners' away game at Everton, Arsenal engaged in discussions with the Premier League and Everton Football Club to request a date alteration. This change was necessary to prevent the team from having to play two matches within a 48-hour span. Consequently, the game has been shifted to Saturday, December 20.

“Playing two matches within 48 hours contradicts FIFA's guidelines, which recommend a minimum of 72 hours rest between games to safeguard player health and fitness. Recovery is particularly critical during the busy holiday season,” Arsenal stated in a release on Tuesday.

“It is important to mention that Christmas Eve was considered for the Carabao Cup quarter-final but was dismissed due to its closeness to Christmas Day, which would affect our supporters and staff,” the statement continued.

Arteta has previously expressed his discontent over the fixture changes, advocating for a more equitable approach. After the EFL Cup date was confirmed,

Arteta remarked, “Hopefully, they will adjust our Premier League match because playing just two days later is illogical. Now that we have clarity on the EFL Cup date, I trust the Premier League will respond appropriately.”

Currently, Arsenal is at the top of the Premier League table with 26 points from eight wins, two draws, and one defeat in 11 matches, leading Manchester City by four points, who have seven wins, one draw, and three defeats. Chelsea is in third place with 20 points from six wins, two draws, and three defeats in 11 matches.

Point of View

I emphasize the importance of fixture management in football. The decision to reschedule Arsenal's match against Everton reflects a growing recognition of player welfare. Clubs must balance competitive integrity with the health and performance of their athletes, especially during demanding periods like the holiday season. This shift is a positive step towards a more sustainable approach to scheduling.
