Dibrugarh, July 23 (NationPress) In a pivotal cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the CM's Secretariat in Dibrugarh, the Assam government has sanctioned a series of vital measures aimed at enhancing police infrastructure, facilitating youth employment overseas, and improving urban living standards.
The Cabinet allocated Rs 150 crore under the MOITRI (Mission for Overall Improvement of Thanas for Responsive Image) initiative to upgrade police stations throughout the state. To date, 73 police stations have been completed in the first phase, while an additional 31 and a cyber police station have been confirmed under the second phase. Ongoing work will continue on the remaining stations.
Significantly, the Cabinet noted that Rs 1,500 crore worth of Assam Police infrastructure has been developed, marking a historic milestone for the state. To boost administrative efficiency, 10 new Co-District Superintendent of Police (CDSP) positions have been established. These Co-Districts, which were previously announced by the General Administration Department, will commence operations by August 15. Their official inauguration is set for August 12, with Cabinet ministers overseeing individual districts such as Boko, Palashbari, Rangapara, and Digboi.
In a significant employment drive, the Cabinet greenlit the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT). This program aims to train Assamese youth in foreign languages like Japanese (JLPT N2 level) and link them with job opportunities abroad, particularly under Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa program. A pilot scheme will be launched this year with partners like ASEAN ONE Co. Ltd and Meiko Career Partners.
Additionally, to enhance living conditions in apartment complexes, the Cabinet approved a scheme for collaborative development of apartment infrastructure through funding from MLALADS and the United Fund. Only buildings with 16+ flats, registered societies, and over 80% occupancy will be eligible for this initiative. Key improvements will encompass road repairs, drainage, water and power supply, parks, and disaster management systems.
Lastly, the government has endorsed the establishment of the ‘Assam Innovation and Startup Foundation’ as a Section 8 company to foster entrepreneurship and innovation across the state.
