Guwahati, Feb 4 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for the remarkable increase in the state's share of central devolution within the Union Budget. He emphasized that this decision showcases New Delhi's unwavering confidence in Assam's developmental journey.

In a message shared on X, CM Sarma noted that the Union Government has consistently placed Assam's growth as a priority, rewarding its positive economic trajectory under the Viksit Bharat vision.

He pointed out that this fiscal year, Assam has been allocated ₹49,725 crore as part of central devolution, which will significantly bolster the state’s ambitious development objectives.

“The Union Government has continually prioritized Assam's growth and has acknowledged its positive progress with an enhanced share of central devolution in the #ViksitBharatBudget. My gratitude goes to Adarniya @narendramodi ji for allocating ₹49,725 crore this year to assist our growth aspirations,” CM Sarma expressed.

State government officials conveyed that this augmented allocation will enhance Assam's fiscal capabilities, allowing for greater investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, connectivity, and social welfare initiatives.

Additionally, the increased devolution is anticipated to provide the state with greater flexibility to execute development programs tailored to regional needs.

The Chief Minister has consistently asserted that Assam's enhanced financial standing is a product of sustained reforms, improved governance, and targeted development initiatives over the last several years.

As per state finance department officials, Assam has shown consistent growth in its own tax and non-tax revenues, coupled with better utilization of central funds.

CM Sarma also highlighted that the Centre’s support has been pivotal in accelerating major infrastructure projects throughout Assam, including highways, bridges, railways, inland waterways, and urban development efforts.

He remarked that these investments are vital for integrating Assam more closely into national and regional markets, thereby boosting employment and attracting private investments.

Political analysts observe that the increased central devolution arrives at a crucial moment when Assam is positioning itself as a vital growth hub in the Northeast. The state government has been promoting Assam as a portal to Southeast Asia, focusing on logistics, tourism, manufacturing, and energy sectors.

With this new allocation, the Assam government is expected to further advance its development initiatives in alignment with the Centre's broader vision of inclusive and balanced regional growth under Viksit Bharat, officials added.
