Guwahati, Sep 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) of Assam conducted extensive raids on multiple locations associated with Nupur Bora, the Circle Officer of the Goroimari revenue circle in Kamrup district, along with her alleged associate Lat Mandal Surajit Deka from Barpeta, as part of an investigation into corruption allegations. During these raids, authorities confiscated a staggering Rs 1.7 crore in cash, alongside gold jewelry.
Officials reported that a significant amount of gold and diamond ornaments was discovered at Bora’s residence in Gotanagar, located in the Maligaon area of Guwahati, along with at least Rs 1 crore 70 lakh in cash. The seized currency is currently undergoing verification with the cooperation of the State Bank of India (SBI).
Additionally, there are indications that Bora possesses several bank lockers in Barpeta and Golaghat, which are now under investigation by the vigilance authorities.
In another development, vigilance officials also uncovered at least Rs 10 lakh in cash from Surajit Deka’s home in Dangarkuchi, Barpeta district. The raids commenced in the early hours of Monday, immediately after Bora and Deka returned to Guwahati late Sunday from a brief visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed reporters, "Nupur Bora illicitly transferred lands belonging to Hindu individuals to illegal infiltrators during her tenure in Barpeta. She has been under surveillance by the vigilance cell for the past six months. Today's operation led to the discovery of over Rs 1 crore 70 lakhs in her residence, and the government will impose strict penalties on this corrupt officer."
Bora, who began her career in the Assam Civil Service in 2019, has previously worked in Barpeta and Karbi Anglong. While serving in Barpeta, she allegedly became involved in a multi-crore land scam. Following her transfer to Goroimari in Kamrup district, new corruption allegations emerged, including significant irregularities in land transactions. This latest operation is part of a broader investigation into these claims.
The vigilance official stated, "The raids are ongoing. The complete scope of the disproportionate assets will be determined once the searches are concluded, and the lockers are examined."
