Assam Police Collaborates with NIA and IB to Combat Terrorism: CM Sarma

Guwahati, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Assam Police is actively collaborating with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to dismantle terror modules within the state, reported Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.
Sarma informed the media, “The Assam Police has joined forces with central agencies such as the NIA and IB to successfully eliminate terror modules in the state. In recent months, we have apprehended 23 operatives from various terror groups across different regions of Assam.”
Some operatives linked to extremist organizations have also been captured from other states.
“We have detained individuals with terror affiliations from West Bengal and Kerala during collaborative operations involving the Assam Police and NIA,” he added.
In addition, the Chief Minister dismissed claims regarding the influx of Hindus from Bangladesh due to unrest in that region, asserting that security forces have not identified any Hindu Bangladeshi infiltrators within the last five months.
Sarma stated, “We have heightened the alert among security forces at the International Border following the disturbances in Bangladesh to prevent infiltration. The police consistently identify numerous illegal immigrants daily along the border. However, no Hindu infiltrator from Bangladesh has been apprehended in the past five months.”
The Chief Minister contended that the Hindu population who immigrated from Bangladesh did so 30 to 40 years ago, while others remain for varying reasons.
“Most individuals from the Hindu community who wished to migrate to India have already done so 30 or 40 years ago. The remaining minority populations continue to reside in Bangladesh despite facing significant atrocities in the country. I believe they have their own motivations for staying, perhaps a connection to their homeland or a sense of patriotism towards Bangladesh,” he expressed.
Sarma also noted a surge in Bangladeshi infiltration in recent months due to the collapse of the textile industry in Bangladesh, which has left many citizens unemployed.
He pointed out that Bangladesh's economy has deteriorated, affecting primarily the majority community more than the minority groups.
He attributed some illegal infiltration to incentives provided by certain textile businessmen in India.
Sarma mentioned that he raised the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting.
“I have discussed these matters with fellow Chief Ministers from northeastern states,” he concluded.
