Guwahati, Feb 11 (NationPress) Assam Police successfully repelled three infiltrators from Bangladesh, which included a Rohingya individual, for breaching Indian borders, as reported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister posted on X, stating, “Our intensified crackdown on illegal infiltration has resulted in the repatriation of 3 illegal entrants, including a Rohingya, over the past two days.”

Those apprehended were named as Sihab Miah, Monir Khan, and Abdul Shukkur.

He further noted that the state government would sustain rigorous monitoring along the border.

Sarma also highlighted a surge in illegal entries from Bangladesh in recent months, attributing it to the turmoil within the textile sector there, which has left many unemployed.

He remarked that Bangladesh's economy has faced significant decline due to civil unrest, disproportionately affecting the majority community.

“In the past few months, we have detained approximately 1000 individuals from Bangladesh. They were promptly repatriated following their detention,” the Chief Minister added.

He connected the illegal crossings to incentives provided by certain textile business owners in India.

During a North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting, Sarma also discussed the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“I have shared these concerns with fellow Chief Ministers of the northeastern states,” he elaborated.

He emphasized: “There’s no possibility of individuals crossing the border from Bangladesh to register on the voter list in Assam. We have intercepted numerous individuals attempting illegal entry, pushing them back in a matter of hours. Most infiltrators are caught around 5 AM and are repelled back to their country by 9 AM, making it impossible to register as voters in such a short time frame.”

Nonetheless, the Chief Minister believes in maintaining heightened vigilance regarding this issue.
