Assam Government Takes Strong Action Against LPG Distributors: Five Suspended for Compliance Violations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 4 (NationPress) In a decisive move, the Assam government has suspended five LPG distributors statewide due to irregularities in their distribution methods and breaches of compliance regulations, officials reported on Saturday.
This decision is part of a heightened monitoring initiative being executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, alongside oil marketing firms, spurred by the current global geopolitical climate in West Asia, which necessitates increased vigilance over fuel supply chains.
The distributors facing suspension comprise B.M. Gas Service in Tezpur, Biswanath Gas Distributor in Biswanath Charali, Gadadhar Gas Service in Dhubri, K.A. Indane Gramin Vitrak in Howly (Barpeta), and Prakash Indane Agency in Hojai.
As per an official announcement from the Chief Secretary's Office, LPG allocations to these distributors have been halted, and no new supplies will be issued through the Supply Planning and Distribution (SPD) system until further notice.
Authorities have guaranteed that consumers associated with these suspended distributors will be redirected to alternative suppliers to maintain a consistent cooking gas supply.
Officials highlighted that this action is part of a comprehensive effort to enforce strict compliance and curb malpractice in the distribution of essential goods. “The irregularities detected during inspections called for immediate intervention,” the statement emphasized.
In the meantime, the state government has assessed the overall LPG availability and reassured the public that there is no fuel shortage. Domestic consumers continue to receive their full allocations, while commercial LPG supply has increased from 60% to 70%, following the state’s adherence to reform criteria.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy, the government stated that additional measures would be taken based on the results of ongoing evaluations. It also stressed that continuous monitoring systems are in place to protect consumer interests and ensure efficient distribution throughout Assam.
