Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 11 (NationPress) - Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, provided reassurance on Wednesday that there is no lack of cooking gas in the state. This statement comes amid rising worries about potential supply interruptions in India due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
During a press briefing, Sarma mentioned that the state government is actively monitoring developments in light of reports suggesting a looming LPG supply crisis associated with tensions in West Asia.
"Assam has sufficient cooking gas supply. There is no reason for the public to panic," he emphasized, stating that the situation is stable.
Sarma highlighted that the Government of India is already coordinating with various nations to guarantee a steady supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to the country.
He explained that India's energy import network is diverse, and the central government is undertaking essential measures to avert any supply chain disruptions.
"The Government of India is in discussions with multiple countries regarding energy supplies. There are no immediate concerns regarding LPG availability in Assam," he asserted.
The Chief Minister's comments come in response to increasing speculation on social media and in certain areas about a potential shortage of LPG cylinders due to rising tensions in West Asia.
Concerns about global oil and gas supply routes have heightened due to fears that a prolonged conflict between Israel and Iran may impact energy markets.
India relies significantly on imported LPG, and any interruptions in shipping channels or supply from the Gulf region tend to trigger worries about domestic availability and pricing.
However, Sarma advised against panic buying or hoarding of cylinders, urging residents to continue their usual LPG purchases and to refrain from spreading rumors about shortages.
Officials confirmed that oil marketing companies maintain adequate stock levels, and distribution networks are fully operational throughout Assam.
The state government is working collaboratively with central agencies and petroleum firms to ensure a stable supply chain. Authorities have further requested the public to avoid generating unnecessary panic, reiterating that there is no current LPG crisis in Assam and that normal supplies are being upheld across the state.
