Guwahati, Aug 15 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized on Friday that the state administration is dedicated to enhancing rapid industrial growth in Assam, focusing on creating employment opportunities for the youth, rather than primarily benefiting large corporations.
CM Sarma articulated that the initiative aims to halt decades of outmigration, where young individuals have been compelled to leave Assam for low-wage jobs, often in roles like security personnel, in different cities.
"We are cultivating an Assam where our youth do not need to seek employment elsewhere. They will play a significant role in Assam's development right here," he stated.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the industrialisation plan arises from pledges made during the 'Advantage Assam' global investors' summit, where the state committed to creating an investment-friendly environment to lure industries and generate jobs.
"Assam requires industrialisation to bring back the thousands of youths. We assured parents during Advantage Assam that industries would be established here to welcome their children back," CM Sarma remarked.
Recognizing potential critiques of this policy, he underlined that the emphasis remains on fostering sustainable livelihoods within the state.
"Some may critique our approach, but we are determined to bring our youths back and create opportunities for them right here," he asserted.
His comments follow a series of announcements regarding industrial and infrastructure developments intended to transform Assam's economy and lessen dependency on employment outside the state.
In addition, CM Sarma revealed that the under-construction Dighalipukhuri–Noonmati flyover in Guwahati will be named in honor of Maharaj Prithu, a legendary ruler of ancient Kamarupa.
This announcement was made during his speech at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati, following the hoisting of the national flag to commemorate the 79th Independence Day.
Describing the decision as part of the government's "sacred duty" to maintain Assam's pride and heritage, CM Sarma noted that this would motivate the youth to learn about the state's historical figures.
"Earlier this year, we honored King Bhagadatta of Kamarupa by naming the Dispur flyover after him. Now, we have resolved that the Dighalipukhuri–Noonmati flyover will carry the name of the valiant Maharaj Prithu," he concluded.
