New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) Assam is witnessing an impressive growth rate of 12.5%, marking its emergence as one of the fastest-growing states in India, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

During an event in the national capital, Sarma emphasized the state's strong and resilient economy, stating, "Assam is among the most powerful growth engines of the nation, expanding at a rate of 12.5%."

He called upon the Ambassadors, High Commissioners from ASEAN, BIMSTEC, Europe, and other nations, as well as industry leaders and stakeholders, to consider investing in Assam.

In his keynote address to diplomats from 36 countries, industrial leaders, and stakeholders, CM Sarma highlighted that Assam has made significant strides in infrastructure, health, education, and various other sectors over the past decade.

He disclosed plans for new infrastructure projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore, including three additional bridges across the Brahmaputra River, a satellite city near Guwahati in collaboration with the Singapore government, and a railway line connecting Guwahati to Gelephu, Bhutan.

Emphasizing the importance of green energy, Sarma stated that the government’s focus has consistently been on clean and renewable energy.

He encouraged that all new industries in Assam, including the Tata semiconductor plant at Jagiroad, should utilize green power sources.

Furthermore, he mentioned that Assam is not only an economic hub but also a center for education, hosting esteemed institutions such as IIT, AIIMS, IIM, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, various state and central universities, and an upcoming NIELIT University campus.

"Assam possesses the necessary skills and capabilities to deliver results. We can ensure that investors receive incentives comparable to those offered by other states," he remarked.

In addition, CM Sarma announced plans to establish a corpus fund of Rs 25,000 crore for production-linked incentives aimed at accelerating industrial growth in the state.

"Join us and become partners in Assam's growth narrative," he encouraged.

Sarma also indicated ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Defence to designate areas around Guwahati towards Nagaon as a defense corridor.

He highlighted the government's commitment to skill development, with the North East Skill Centre training 10,000 youths.

Commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing the development of the North East Region, Sarma quoted PM Modi’s description of the Northeast as "India's growth engine" and "Ashtalakshmi."

The Chief Minister shared success stories of conservation efforts in Kaziranga and Manas National Parks, along with initiatives for preserving the region's rich heritage.

He invited diplomats to visit Assam on February 24, the day before the Advantage Assam Summit 2.0, to experience the spectacular Jhumur dance featuring 8,000 dancers, an event graced by the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
