Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 23 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the state is undergoing a remarkable evolution in connectivity, as significant bridge constructions over the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are drastically cutting down travel times and connecting remote areas to the mainstream.
In a post shared on X, CM Sarma remarked, “Constructing Assam, bridge by bridge. Decreasing travel times, enhancing connectivity, and linking remote regions, we are advancing toward an Atal, Avichal, Agragami Assam faster than ever before.”
While discussing the ongoing infrastructure advancements, the Chief Minister emphasized that bridges spanning the Brahmaputra have become the foundation of Assam’s growth, uniting the northern and southern banks and unlocking economic opportunities in districts that previously relied on ferries and long detours.
He pointed out that landmark bridge projects like the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, Bhupen Hazarika Setu, and Kumar Vaskar Barma Setu have already transformed travel patterns, with several more bridges currently under construction.
“The Brahmaputra is no longer an obstacle to progress; it has evolved into a connector,” the Chief Minister stated, noting that enhanced infrastructure has boosted trade, tourism, and access to healthcare and education, especially for residents in char areas and riverine belts.
CM Sarma also mentioned that shorter travel times have facilitated industrial activities and improved emergency response capabilities, in addition to fostering better integration with neighboring states and national highways.
He reassured that the state government is collaborating closely with the Centre to ensure that projects are completed on time while adhering to global engineering standards and environmental considerations.
The Chief Minister asserted that Assam’s infrastructure initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for seamless connectivity in the Northeast, positioning the state as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
“With the completion of each bridge, Assam is becoming increasingly self-reliant, resilient, and growth-focused,” CM Sarma proclaimed, reiterating that infrastructure development continues to be a top priority for his administration.
