Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 2 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that Assam has made remarkable progress in enhancing its connectivity infrastructure. He confidently stated that the state is "mastering the connectivity challenge" in both speed and scale. In a message shared on the social media platform X, Sarma emphasized the impressive pace of infrastructure advancements since 2021, revealing that the government has been constructing an astonishing average of 13 kilometres of roads daily and five bridges weekly.
He remarked that these initiatives have not only connected communities but also created new opportunities throughout the state.
“Since 2021, we have constructed 13 km of roads each day and 5 bridges every week, enhancing connections and creating opportunities for everyone,” the Chief Minister stated.
Highlighting the significance of connectivity in the state's development trajectory, Sarma characterized it as the foundation of what he envisions as an “Atal, Avichal, Agragami Assam” — a vision of a robust, stable, and progressive state.
The Chief Minister has consistently underscored infrastructure development as a core component of his government’s agenda, focusing particularly on road, bridge, and transport connectivity to link remote and border regions with major economic hubs.
Officials noted that enhanced connectivity has not only minimized travel time but also improved access to essential services such as healthcare, education, markets, and government services, particularly for rural and flood-affected areas.
The growth of roadways and bridges has significantly contributed to the increase of trade, tourism, and investment within the state. Key infrastructure projects realized in recent years include the development of new highways, the reinforcement of rural road networks, and the completion of several long-overdue bridge projects over the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries.
The state government is also synchronizing its connectivity initiatives with national infrastructure programs, aiming to establish Assam as a critical gateway to the Northeast and a pivotal link in India's 'Act East' policy.
Sarma reiterated that continuous investment in infrastructure will remain a priority, asserting that improved connectivity is vital for inclusive growth and the long-term economic transformation of Assam.
