New Delhi, Feb 17 (NationPress) Two-time reigning Paralympic champion rifle shooter, Avani Lekhara shared her thoughts on the insightful discussions and valuable guidance from the "Pariksha Pe Charcha" (PPC) initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She emphasized how this initiative has been beneficial for students during challenging periods, particularly leading up to exams, highlighting its role in motivating students.
This year's Pariksha Pe Charcha serves as an engaging platform where PM Modi interacts directly with students, educators, and parents. The 8th edition of PPC includes seven enlightening episodes, showcasing prominent figures from various fields who offer guidance on critical life skills, with Avani participating in the Sports & Discipline segment.
Having successfully defended her women’s 10m air rifle shooting standing SH1 title at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Avani became the first Indian woman to win two gold medals in the history of the Games. While discussing her experience with the initiative, she expressed that it took her back to her school days.
"Engaging with so many young minds and sharing my journey... their presence reminded me of my school experiences. We talked about alleviating nervousness and stress during exams, and the importance of sports – it was a truly rewarding experience.
"It’s incredibly inspiring. Often, we feel overwhelmed right before an exam, and even during it, concentrating becomes a challenge, leading us to forget what we've learned. In those moments, receiving such advice is profoundly motivating. There are numerous strategies shared that aid students in maintaining a calm mindset, allowing them to focus and excel," Avani shared with IANS.
The Prime Minister frequently connects with sports figures following their international achievements. Reflecting on her interactions with PM Modi, Avani recalled the counsel she received from him prior to the Paris Paralympics as a defending champion.
"I have had multiple encounters with the PM. The first was post-Tokyo Paralympics. He communicated with us before our departure for Tokyo and again upon our return. The same occurred for Paris 2024, where he inspired all athletes heading there," she stated.
"He specifically mentioned, 'Many will place expectations upon you, but do not let that weigh you down; instead, transform it into your strength'. This advice resonated with me. Numerous athletes anticipate their medals and the PM's call, creating cherished memories. These moments drive an athlete to represent their nation and strive for excellence," she reminisced.
"Typically, it is uncommon for your country's PM to personally call to congratulate you. He possesses a deep understanding of our individual journeys. Each time we meet him, it feels familiar; he knows so much about everyone. This instills a motivation to perform at our best. We focus on excelling and eagerly await that call from him," she added.
Avani concluded with her insights on managing pressure and stress in this competitive era, stating, "At times, it feels as if we are engulfed by negativity, leading us to believe it’s the end. In such moments, we must never surrender. Just like when a person sustains an injury, acceptance is key before healing can begin.
"We should never presume that favorable outcomes are unattainable. Continuous effort will ultimately guide you to a place of self-pride."
