Mumbai, April 15 (NationPress) Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana, known for his recent role in ‘Thamma’, has paid homage to the iconic vocalist Asha Bhosle through a heartfelt musical rendition.
On Wednesday, Ayushmann shared a video on Instagram featuring himself playing the guitar and singing the Punjabi classic ‘Das Mereya Dilbara’, originally performed by Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi.
In his post, he expressed, “This is one of my favourite lesser-known Punjabi gems by Asha. I grew up listening to her voice, and it will forever resonate with us.”
Asha Bhosle, a towering figure in the music industry, recorded her first playback song in the 1943 Marathi play ‘Majha Bal’. She is celebrated for her contributions to timeless hits like ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko’, ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani’, ‘Kya Ghazab Karte Ho Ji’, ‘O Haseena Zulfonwale Jane Jahan’, and ‘Ye Ladka Hay Allah Kaisa Hai Diwana’, among others. Her linguistic versatility allowed her to perform in approximately 20 languages, both Indian and international.
The legendary singer passed away on April 12, after being admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on the previous Saturday. Her illustrious career was recognized with the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan Award in 2008.
Asha Bhosle received a guard of honour at her residence in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Her last journey was marked with state honors, as her remains were transported draped in the tricolor from her home to the Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar.
Among those who attended her last rites were prominent figures from the Bollywood industry, including Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Tabu, Vivek Oberoi, composer Anu Malik, and singers Anup Jalota, Sudesh Bhosale, and Shaan. Political dignitaries such as Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and Uddhav Thackeray also paid their respects.
