Chennai, Jan 16 (NationPress) A Pongal vacation bench of the Madras High Court is set to review the bail application of YouTuber Savukku Shankar tomorrow concerning allegations of disseminating misinformation. Shankar has filed a request for bail linked to charges of allegedly spreading falsehoods about an investigation into a massive land fraud case.

It is claimed that Shankar, during an interview on his YouTube channel, Savukku Media, propagated false information.

The police further assert that he conveyed misleading information during interviews with prominent Tamil news television channels in December 2024.

The charges against Shankar were registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint from Siva Subramanian, an Inspector with the Land Fraud Investigation Wing II of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Chennai.

These charges include Section 221 (Obstructing a public servant in duty), Section 222 (Failure to assist a public servant), and Sections 353(1)(b) and (2) (Making false statements intending to induce an offence against the State).

As per the complaint, the investigating officer in the land fraud case found an interview conducted by Shankar on December 5, 2024, where he made unfounded claims regarding the investigation.

The Inspector summoned Shankar for questioning on December 16, 2024.

During the inquiry, Shankar reportedly challenged the Inspector's authority and declined to cooperate.

When queried about the basis for his claim that a false case was filed against an innocent individual, Shankar acknowledged that he lacked any supporting documents.

The Inspector subsequently filed a complaint with the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), accusing Shankar of attempting to obstruct the investigation by spreading falsehoods via his YouTube platform.

Notably, Shankar allegedly persisted in making accusations against the police in later media interviews. Following the complaint, ACP B. Sampath registered an FIR on December 18, 2024, against Savukku Media Network, Shankar, and two interviewers from YouTube channels, Leo and Malathi.

The ACP subsequently appointed Inspector V. Bharathi as the investigating officer in this matter.
