Chennai, March 25 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Home Department has assigned the investigation regarding the recent assault on YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar's home to the state's Crime Branch–Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID).

The event unfolded on Monday when a group of people, masquerading as sanitary workers, invaded Shankar's home and vandalized it.

According to his 68-year-old mother, Kamala, who lodged a complaint at the Kilpauk Police Station, the mob initially pounded on their front door, shouting aggressively.

“Sensing danger, I refrained from opening the door. Shortly thereafter, approximately 20 men and women broke through the back door and forcefully entered the residence,” Kamala stated.

Kamala claimed that the intruders physically attacked her and hurled verbal insults. They then ransacked the house, strewing garbage and sewage mixed with human waste across the floor.

She asserted that the assailants threatened her, saying, “We’ve paused for now. Next time, we’ll burn you alive inside the house.”

The mob allegedly expressed their outrage over “derogatory” comments made by Shankar about sanitary workers in one of his YouTube videos.

During the attack, they also seized her mobile phone and used it to verbally abuse Shankar through a video call, issuing threats towards him as well.

The YouTuber later posted on social media displaying screenshots from the video call, including pictures of one of the attackers.

According to Kamala, some assailants lingered outside the house post-incident, seemingly waiting for Shankar's return.

Upon her call to the police control room, law enforcement personnel were dispatched to the residence to avert further violence.

In her complaint, Kamala also alleged that the attack could be tied to Shankar's recent “expose” concerning irregularities in the procurement of vehicles for sanitary work under state and federal government schemes.

Officials from the Greater Chennai City Police have promised that suitable legal action will be pursued based on the findings of the investigation.
