Quetta, April 14 (NationPress) A prominent human rights organization has claimed that two additional Baloch youths were victims of extrajudicial killings by Pakistani security forces in Balochistan, intensifying the alarm over ongoing human rights abuses in the area.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) reported that 18-year-old Muhammad Khalid was violently killed by personnel from Pakistan’s Eagle Squad on April 10 while en route to the provincial capital Quetta with two companions, intending to sell their motorcycle and acquire furniture.

As per the rights group, the Eagle Squad opened fire without any prior warning, causing Khalid's friends to be thrown off the motorcycle. Khalid was allegedly isolated, beaten, and shot at point-blank range.

Instead of being provided with medical care, the BYC asserted that Khalid was taken to an undisclosed location where he faced additional violence.

He was subsequently transported to Civil Hospital Quetta in a dire state, where he reportedly endured physical abuse and torture before finally succumbing to his injuries.

“The ongoing systematic killings are deeply troubling, with excessive force and mistreatment of victims and their families on the rise. The current climate in Balochistan is oppressive, with women, children, and youth living in constant dread, uncertain of when or where they might be unjustly killed,” the BYC stated.

“Law and order have completely broken down in Balochistan. No legal or institutional body can guarantee safety, as they are complicit in the atrocities occurring in the region. The silence of the international media regarding the genocide in Balochistan is equally alarming,” it added.

In an unrelated incident, the BYC disclosed that another 18-year-old student, Chakar Baloch, was extrajudicially murdered by a death squad backed by Pakistan on April 9 in the Kech district.

The rights organization noted that Chakar was attacked at his shop, where armed individuals associated with the death squad opened fire, resulting in his immediate death.

Condemning this brutal act, the BYC stated, “Such incidents represent severe breaches of international human rights law, notably Article 6 (Right to Life) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which unequivocally forbids the arbitrary deprivation of life under any circumstances.”

The organization expressed profound concern, indicating that these latest events underscore the lack of accountability amid the persistent human rights crisis in Balochistan, with families suffering while perpetrators continue to act with impunity.

The BYC urged international human rights organizations and the United Nations to urgently advocate for independent and transparent investigations to ensure accountability and prevent further loss of life in Balochistan.

Point of View

It becomes increasingly vital for national and international bodies to ensure accountability and protect the rights of the vulnerable population in the region.
