Chennai, Nov 20 (NationPress) A new low-pressure system is emerging over the Bay of Bengal and is anticipated to strengthen within the next 48 hours, based on the latest insights from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Current weather models suggest that a cyclonic circulation located in the Comorin Sea and surrounding regions is slowly shifting west-northwest and is predicted to develop into a more structured low-pressure area shortly.

Experts in meteorology indicate that another low-pressure system could form over the southeast Bay of Bengal either on Friday or the following day. This new system is expected to progress west-northwest and gain strength within 48 hours. Should the conditions remain propitious, it could further evolve into a depression, resulting in widespread rainfall across both coastal and inland areas of Tamil Nadu.

In light of these shifting weather patterns, substantial rainfall is predicted today in the Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore districts. These areas, which have already been experiencing sporadic showers recently, may encounter isolated heavy downpours along with strong winds.

Local authorities have been notified and instructed to prepare disaster response units.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is also forecasted for Chennai and its nearby suburbs.

Officials from the IMD have noted that convective activity is likely to increase later in the evening, potentially leading to sudden, intense showers.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant during lightning events and to avoid open spaces and areas prone to flooding.

Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea, especially in the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent waters, as wind speeds are expected to rise due to the evolving system. Sea conditions may become tumultuous, posing dangers to small vessels and fishing trawlers.

Weather analysts point out that this is the second significant disturbance emerging in the region during the current phase of the Northeast Monsoon.

As moisture-laden winds strengthen over the Bay, Tamil Nadu is predicted to experience heightened rainfall over the coming days, particularly along the coast.

The IMD has committed to closely monitoring the system and will provide timely updates. Citizens are urged to stay informed through official weather bulletins and to take necessary precautions during heavy rainfall events.
