Kolkata, May 23 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, on Friday, urged for a special Assembly session to address the recent communal violence and riot-like conditions in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district that occurred last month.
Adhikari's remarks came in response to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's call for a special Parliament session, following the return of various multi-party delegations currently on international tours aimed at gathering global support to diplomatically isolate Pakistan due to its alleged backing of terrorist organizations.
In a post on the social media platform X, Banerjee reiterated her demand for a special Parliament session.
Adhikari challenged this by asking, “Why not convene a special session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to discuss and confront the horrific anti-Hindu communal violence in Murshidabad district?”
He described the brutal murders of Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das, a father and son duo killed in the communal unrest in Samserganj, as profound stains on the moral conscience of West Bengal.
In his remarks, Adhikari referenced a recent report from a Calcutta High Court-appointed three-member committee investigating the Murshidabad violence, which highlighted significant police negligence and indifference to control the situation prior to the arrival of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
